Abstract. In 2002 we established replicated plots for side-by-side comparison of organic and conventional production in high tunnels and open fields at the K-State Horticulture Research and Extension Center, Olathe, Kansas. Organic plots were certified in 2003 and have been managed continuously according to USDA standards, including use of compost for fertility input, and approved pest control measures. Conventional plots consistently received synthetic fertilizer inputs and pest control measures. Trials conducted to date have evaluated production and selected quality attributes (including phytochemical content and taste) of a range of cool and warm season vegetable crops. Summary results of selected trials conducted to date will be presented, evaluating effects of both high tunnel and organic production systems on a range of crops.
